Sixth Form

A stepping stone to life beyond school

The Sixth form at The Queen’s School offers a range of opportunities in academic, sporting and social terms that is difficult to match.

Outstanding academic education

Girls learn in a relaxed and friendly environment with small teaching groups. The results they achieve are outstanding.

Curriculum

  • Year 12 study 4 AS subjects + Critical Thinking
  • Year 13 study 3 A2 subjects + Critical Thinking (optional)

Students choose from the following subjects:

Art, Biology, Business Studies, Chemistry, Classical Civilisation, Economics, English Language, English Literature, French, Further Mathematics, Geography, German, History, ICT, Latin, Mathematics, Music, Physics, Psychology, Religious Studies, Spanish.

Strong Personal Support System

  • There are four tutor groups in each year, each with approximately 15 students.
  • Girls keep the same personal tutor throughout their time in the sixth form who provides advice and support on all curricular and non-curricular matters.
  • Tutors provide expert help with university applications to complement wide-ranging advice from the careers department.

Sixth Form privileges

We view the sixth form as a transition between school and university and so students enjoy a good deal of freedom.

  • Lower and upper sixth form common rooms in a superb sixth form centre
  • Freedom of access to the city centre
  • A Sixth Form dress code
  • Study periods allow students to take responsibility for their own learning
  • ICT and language–learning facilities

Girls may also choose to become involved in extra –curricular activities such as the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme and Young Enterprise.
