The Queen's School appoints a new Head

The Governors of The Queen’s School, Chester, one of the country’s top independent girls’ schools, have today announced the appointment of a new Head who will take up the post in September 2010.

Mrs Sarah Clark MA, currently Deputy Head at Wellingborough School, Northamptonshire will succeed Mrs Catherine Buckley, who will be retiring after nine years’ service to the School.

Mrs Clark was educated at Queen Mary’s High School, Walsall and studied History and Classics at Newnham College, Cambridge. Mrs Clark taught at Rochester Grammar School for Girls and Tonbridge Grammar School for Girls before taking up her present appointment as Deputy Head at Wellingborough School. Her interests include cycling, football and oil painting.

Liz Lunn, Chairman of Governors, said that she was delighted that Mrs Clark had been appointed to succeed Mrs Buckley on her retirement in summer 2010. “Mrs Clark is passionate about all-round excellence in education, particularly for girls. We are confident that she will continue to take the School forward as we enter the next decade, building on the excellent standards which underpin The Queen’s School’s outstanding reputation as one of the country’s top independent girls’ schools.

The School has achieved so much under Mrs Buckley’s outstanding leadership and we believe that it is in a very strong position to attain new heights of excellence under Mrs Clark.”

Mrs Clark said "I thoroughly enjoyed meeting the staff and students of The Queen's School at interview and was impressed by the interest and enthusiasm shown by the girls in their lessons and in extra-curricular activities. It is clear that they enjoy being at the School and have many opportunities here to flourish and develop. It is a tremendous honour to be appointed as Head of The Queen's School and I will do my utmost to ensure that the School continues to move forward in order to meet the challenges of the future."
