Physical Education

Sport for all….and for life

Physical Education is taught throughout the school by subject specialists.

The aims of the department are:

  • To encourage enjoyment and satisfaction through physical activity;
  • To reach a standard which reflects each student’s ability;
  • To motivate each student to take regular exercise;
  • To foster a lifelong interest in physical activity.

Physical education is a compulsory subject in Years 7-13 and a variety of skills are acquired within lessons.

Years 7-9 follow programmes in gymnastics, dance, hockey, lacrosse, netball, swimming, tennis, athletics and rounders. Years 10 and 11 follow programmes in volleyball, badminton, basketball and football, alongside those covered in years 7-9. Years 12 and 13 follow more leisure-based courses including dance and aerobics, as well as a social games approach to netball, hockey, volleyball, badminton and basketball.

The extended curriculum supports a total inclusion policy in all its clubs and squads, whilst maintaining a high standard at local, county, regional and national levels.

Girls are welcome to attend any of the following extra-curricular activities: hockey, lacrosse, netball, football, running, badminton, basketball, table tennis, swimming, skiing, gymnastics, tennis, athletics and rounders. For more information see the extra-curricular booklet online.

Occasionally students have the opportunity to attend international tours and top sporting events, such as Wimbledon. Recent tours include the Isle of Man and Malta.
