Information & Communication Technology

"ICT expands horizons by shrinking worlds."

Information and Communication Technology (ICT) is taught throughout the school by specialist staff. At present the department consists of one full time and one part time teacher.

The school benefits from excellent ICT facilities.

The aims of the department are:

  • To provide pupils with opportunities to develop their ICT capabilities in all areas outlined in the national curriculum;
  • To allow pupils to gain confidence and enjoyment from their ICT activities and to develop skills which enhance and extend their learning in the curriculum;
  • To develop pupils’ awareness of the use of computers in a variety of contexts both in the classroom and in everyday life;
  • To develop pupils who are critical users of ICT capable of evaluating both the potential and limitations of computers;
  • To encourage pupils to become autonomous, independent users of ICT.

The department also runs a computer club where the girls have the opportunity to develop their software skills, and where they are given the opportunity to build computer systems.

There is also a podcast club where the senior girls practice their interview skills and put members of staff through their paces!

ICT is a core subject in Years 7 – 9. Years 10 and 11 may study ICT as an option to GCSE. It is also offered as an AS and A level subject.
