Careers

The department has two experienced and well qualified staff, who aim to enable girls to make informed judgements and to take effective decisions about their career and life choices.

Girls learn to:

  • Identify career needs and priorities
  • Make plans and decisions about future learning and work
  • Take action to improve opportunities

The emphasis is on meeting the needs of the individual. However, there is a structured careers programme delivered from years 9-13, with some input also in Years 7 and 8. Girls will be helped in this process through modules within the PSE programme, introduction to and use of relevant computer software, and a wealth of resources. As they progress through the school, the focus turns more to the individual, and each girl will have regular interviews and guidance.

The School works closely with other partners and is fortunate in having many willing contacts from the professions and higher education to assist in the programme. A personal advisor from Connexions works with the School to assist in some individual and group work.

Almost all girls normally proceed to higher education, obtaining places on competitive courses at top universities, but whatever a girl’s choice for her future career might be, she will receive dedicated help and advice.
