Aims and Objectives
The Queen’s School is a highly successful academic school which aims to enable each individual girl to develop her abilities and talents to the full within a happy, caring and disciplined atmosphere.
The school aims:
- to provide a stimulating environment where girls see learning and acquiring knowledge as an exciting experience and where they value scholarship for its own sake;
- to help girls to develop a framework of moral, spiritual and cultural values and a secure sense of self-worth. to encourage a sense of responsibility and respect for others;
- to promote the physical well-being of our pupils;
- to foster in each girl the qualities of independence, self-discipline, creativity and initiative to meet the challenges of the future with confidence.
Objectives
The objectives of the school are:
- to provide a broad and balanced curriculum which responds to the needs of its pupils and reflects best educational practice;
- to offer a wide range of extra-curricular opportunities;
- to develop our system of pastoral care and pupil support;
- to attract and retain well-qualified, well-motivated teaching staff;
- to attract and retain high quality administrative, technical and maintenance staff;
to provide a programme of professional development for teaching and non- teaching staff; - to develop and improve the school’s buildings and facilities;
- to continue to seek ways of improving the high quality of teaching and learning within the school;
- to attract applications from larger numbers of able pupils from a wider area;
- to provide the financial, human and material resources necessary to achieve these objectives.

Governors’ Role and Committees
The main topics dealt with by the Governors are the general educational character and aims of the school; strategic planning; approval of fees and oversight of finances; disciplinary and ethical matters; senior appointments; major building projects.
The Governors meet as a full body four times a year to review and approve reports and recommendations put to them by individual Governors and by a variety of working parties and sub-committees. They are assisted at these meetings by the Headmistress, Deputy Headmistress and the Clerk to the Governors.
In addition, a number of standing sub-committees held on a regular basis provide the opportunity for Governors to meet with appropriate members of staff to review a range of issues. Governors’ sub-committees are Finance; Strategic Planning; Audit and Risk Management; Foundation, while staff sub-committees on which the Governors are represented deal with Marketing and Health & Safety. In addition, the Governors meet regularly with representatives of staff through the Joint Consultative Committee, with the parents through the QSPA Committee, and with old girls through the QSA Committee.
There are link arrangements in operation whereby each Governor has a particular contact with one or more of the school departments. Finally, individual Governors are responsible for relations between the school and the County Council, the City Council, the City MP, local industry and commerce, the QSPA and the QSA, as well as other entities external to the school.
